Tuesday afternoon I worked a girls varsity game. We had a local powerhouse team Mark Keppel vs. J Serra from San Juan Capistrano. The game went into overtime however we had a very weird situation that arose. In overtime Mark Keppel gained control of the ball on the floor after 3pt shot feel short with about 3o secs left. Both team are out of timeouts. My partner grants Keppel a timeout and I simply play the scenario through my mind of what's gonna happen and how play is going to resum. No brainer. We asess and Administrative technical foul, and J Serra gets the ball at the division line. However the Keepel coach pleaded that he didn't call timeout, however my partner said he heard 3 times coming from the bench. So my partner and I talk about it, and I'm thinking we can inadvert or asess the Tech. after we were done talkin, both had used this as timeout and went to their benches. Now I felt if I go with an inadvertant whistle all hell well break loose with the visiting team or if I go with Tech the home team is going to pop off. So, I admin the Tech by rule, and the game ends with Keppel losing by 3.
If we didn't take so long talking about the situation I would have gone with an inadvertant whistle and resume play from POI. I aslo could have said by rule the head coach has to call timeout. This game was interesting at the end. Let me have your comments on what you would have done.

My CIF Division 1A Girls Quarter Final: February 23, 2008 @ San Clemente High School
This past Saturday I worked my first CIF Southern Section Girls Quarterfinal.
The game was at San Clemente High School in San Clemente, (southern)CA.
Two Orange County powers went at it in a very well played game, which was packed with fans supporting their teams in a very loud environment with media everywhere. The game was televised on COX Cable Network. I worked on a great crew with two very good officials whom I have worked with before. All three of us work college ball. My two partners are on the womens side and I'm on the mens. San Clemente beat Foothill with the score of 59-52. As soon as the final horn went off, the students rushed to floor. My two partners got off fine, but I had to be escorted off by the A.D. since I got caught in the herd. He grabbed me by the arm and steered me off the floor. We had an evaluator from the office who saw our game. He said we did good. After my crew and I went to dinner with a buddy of mine who works h.s. and college ball as well. We went to TGI Fridays to have dinner and end an awesome night. If you want to hear more let me know.
